Watch the new Corvette storm the North Loop of the Nürburgring

Chevrolet has released a video demonstrating its upcoming next-gen Corvette sports car on the Nürburgring racetrack in Germany. The vehicle will celebrate its official premiere in mid-summer 2019.

The short video shows an assortment of classical Corvettes from the past eras next to the new, camouflage-clad supercar. There is also the planned premiere date: July 18, 2019. While it might seem like reading too much into it, we think the numbers ’07.18.19’ might also somehow correspond to the lap time that the vehicle scored when blazing along the North Loop of the Nürburgring.

For the first time in 70 years, the Chevrolet Corvette makes a switch to the mid-engine layout. Industry pros expect it to ship with a naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 engine machined from aluminum and capable of 500+ horsepower (375+ kilowatts). The engine will link to an eight-speed DCT transmission and send all of its power to the rear wheels.

A turbocharged Corvette rated at around 650 hp / 485 kW might be released at a later date, and an AWD hybrid version churning out 900+ hp / 670+ kW is likewise possible, if not confirmed yet.

Production of the current-gen Corvette will continue for a while. The car will even get a facelift and then sell alongside the new generation.
