The next
generation of the Chevrolet Corvette won’t premiere until July 18, 2019, but we
don’t have to wait until then to learn what the rear end of the American
supercar looks like, thanks to some car spotters.
Based on the only pic
provided, the mid-engine vehicle sports Camaro-like rear lights, a diffuser supporting
dual tailpipes, and a wide rear spoiler.
According to
unofficial sources, the new Corvette will ship with a 6.2-liter naturally
aspirated V8 made of aluminum. Partnered to an 8-speed DCT transmission, it
will deliver 500 horsepower (373 kilowatts) or more to the rear wheels.
A 650-hp (485-kW)
variant of the supercar might emerge in the future. An all-wheel-drive Corvette
C8 Hybrid with an electric motor mounted on the rear axle is also possible. The
latter could be rated as high as 900 hp (671 kW), industry pros say. Then
again, none of this is anything but speculation at the moment.
Even when the
next-gen Corvette hits the showrooms throughout the United States, the current model
won’t be going anywhere. Furthermore, it will receive a facelift to better suit
the times.
