The Roadster variant of the eighth-gen Chevrolet Corvette debuted at a special event in Florida a couple days ago. Much to the surprise to those attending the premiere, the carmaker has simultaneously revealed the C8.R racecar no one expected until at least early 2020.
The company did preserve at least some mystery, never disclosing any of the technical specs of the vehicle. While the regular C8 Corvette gets 6.2-liter V8, the C8.R might end up with a modified Blackwing engine. In its Cadillac CT6-V implementation, the 4.2-liter V8 mill produces 557 hp (415 kW) and 850 Nm (627 lb-ft) of torque.
That said, Cadillac openly announced it was not going to share its proprietary engine design with third parties. Which this in mind, the actual C8.R engine remains a mystery.
The racecar is slated for participation in the IMSA Rolex24 race in Daytona, Florida in January.
