Following numerous technical difficulties General Motors faced this year, production of the eighth-generation Chevrolet Corvette was postponed to February 2020. Despite this, the entire planned production volume for 2020 has been sold out in pre-orders.
This means around 40,000 cars. We don’t know if the company only included coupes in this number or roadsters, too. The open-top C8 Corvette should generate around 50% of the demand, according to market analysts.
The first C8 will be auctioned off in January for approximately $1 million, and the manufacturer pledges to donate the money to the Detroit Children’s Fund.
On an interesting side note, it would appear that GM sells the most affordable Corvettes at a net loss. The sports car is estimated at around U.S. $80,000 net cost, which is considerably above the minimum retail price of $60,000. The company itself considers this normal, saying that the more expensive versions will compensate for the losses, and that positive image comes first in these matters.
