Chevrolet Corvette C8 hits production at last

Following the premiere last July, the C8 Corvette should have reached the assembly lines late last year – but never did, due to issues with suppliers and factory worker strikes. Those issues have been resolved now, General Motors reports.

The assembly takes place at the factory in Bowling Green, Kentucky, USA, and the entire production batch planned for 2020 is already sold out via pre-orders. The First Edition Corvette will be in production for seven months and available to order before April. In the fall, the company will switch to producing the more expensive 2021 model year Corvette.

A Corvette C8 Stingray coupe featuring a V8 6.2 engine and 502 horsepower (375 kilowatts) currently starts from U.S. $60,000, whereas its roadster counterpart begins at $67,500.

The performance-packed Corvette Z06 should reach the showrooms this summer with even more impressive engine specs, enhanced suspension, and a fresh aerodynamic kit.
