YouTube user and tuner V8TV has posted a series of three short video clips dedicated to the complete restoration of a half-a-century-old C3 Chevrolet Corvette. The footage provides valuable insight into the various hidden pitfalls inherent in such projects.
Among other things, he had originally wanted to fix the vacuum-powered pop-up headlights that normally stay hidden inside the car body. The solution was deemed innovative by 1969 standards and required regular maintenance. In the end, he gave up on his original intention and went for the much more reliable and efficient electric headlight lifts.
The most technically challenging part of the project was swapping the stock engine out for the universally acclaimed LS3 V8 crate engine and the transmission for the Tremec T56 six-speed manual. V8TV had exhausted all possibilities trying to find a non-invasive method of accommodating the new drivetrain inside his C3 Corvette. He ended up having to cut out a large hole in the car bottom and welding an entire new transmission tunnel into it.
Be sure to watch all three short videos if you ever wanted to get a better idea of the scope of work associated with restomods.
