Man turns a 1936 pickup truck into an EV

Chris Webb, an auto workshop owner from Canada, has built a unique hot rod-like restomod with an 84-year-old Hayes truck at its base. He put the electric motor that powers the build inside an improvised Chevrolet Small Block V8 housing.

Webb’s daughter suggested the idea for the project, and his friends provided help with certain aspects. In the end, the team decided to place the powertrain – including the motor, the radiator, the ECU and the cooling fan – inside an aluminum replica of the original Small Block V8 housing.

There is no mention of the car’s horsepower rating, but the torque rises as high as 350 Nm (258 pound-feet).

Interestingly enough, the stock gasoline engine is still present, too, although moved to behind the cab and functionally reduced to supplying electric power to the new motor.
