The owner of this 6th-gen ‘Vette compared the power of his tuned ride (850 HP) against the output of a stock McLaren 720S (710 hp) and concluded he’d have no difficulty racing it to the end of a quarter-mile strip. If only! Having blown the first attempt, he resorted to the only proven medicine: even more tuning.
The Vortech YSI radial supercharger received a new drive belt, and the engine ended up with 1.3 times the fuel injector size, a custom cooling arrangement and a revised cold air intake system. Among other things, the software of the supercar was tweaked to get the most out of the E85 fuel mix. In the end, the nominal output of the engine slammed through 1,000 hp (745 kW) at the crank.
Even with this advantage on his side, the driver decided to play it safe and swapped the transmission to a Tremec TR6060, added a rear differential and wrapped the wheels in sticky Mickey Thompson ET Street R rubber.
