If it ain’t broke, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t just go ahead and fix the living hell out of it, right? Anyway, that’s how tuning folks seem to think when they take a top-of-the-line supercar and endow it with new power, style and dynamics.
That’s what the Hennessey Performance team did when they took an extremely high-performing 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 coupe and tuned it up to be nearly twice as powerful.
The latest Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 premiered a few weeks ago, with the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Convertible following shortly thereafter. Both cars took advantage of the 6.2-liter LT5 V8 monster engine capable of 765 horsepower and 969 Nm torque.
Engineers from Hennessey came up with a total of three tuning kits for the latest Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 named HPE850, HPE1000, and HPE1200. It is easy to see that the numbers correspond to the actual engine horsepower after each of these modifications.
The top-end Hennessey Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 HPE1200 accelerates 0-100 km/h (0-60 mph) in mere 2.2 seconds and peaks out at 370 km/h (230 mph).
Hennessey Performance gave no indication of the price of any of these Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 engine upgrades. Still, the mass-produced versions of both Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 and Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Convertible are already available at $119,995 and $123,995 and above, respectively.
