You’d think there’s little sense in buying a write-off, except in cases when you want to try and salvage the few surviving components and semi-precious metals. As a car aficionado from the USA proved this week, you could aspire to much greater heights, too.
He acquired a wrecked mid-engined Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. A careful examination showed that most units were actually still intact, while most of the damage was localized at the left side of the car.
He then proceeded to tear the coupe down to its frame to replace the left radiator, which broke during the impact. Once finished, he sourced a new front door along with a rocker panel and quarter panels for both ends. The new parts required factory painting, but the man actually set up a full-featured spray booth and did everything himself.
Once the seat belts and airbags were replaced, the Corvette was drivable once again. Would you ever dare yourself to do anything like this to get a luxury sports car?
