Mecum Auctions will hold a big sale in January dedicated to various automotive exotics, including this 58-year-old Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport restomod. A whole dozen of such cars was built for filming Furious Five, but only three survived the extreme stunts.
Mongoose Motorsports conducted the tuning, landing each car on a C4 ‘Vette suspension and a custom tubular chassis. Most examples were given a robust 5.7-liter GM V8, but this one somehow ended up with an air-cooled Volkswagen mill. We do not have any details to share with you, but the car is likely much less powerful than the rest.
Perhaps it was the lack of power that enabled it to survive all the stunts, after all. Judging by the numerous dents and scratches all over the body, especially at the front, it was treated the same way as the rest.
No prices have been announced so far. For those interested, Mongoose Motorsports builds vintage Corvette Grand Sport replicas for $85,000 USD plus whatever your chosen engine/transmission combo costs.
