In the late 2000s, Karl Kustoms built around 75 Chevrolet C6 Corvettes with a C2 exterior and modern tech. One of these is on sale in the USA right now for a sobering amount of $199,000.
The second generation of the ‘Vette had a famous Split Window version that was only produced for one year. Finding a surviving example with the rear window divided in half can be very challenging nowadays, and it would cost you about as much as this C6-based replica. It is not a very faithful one, though.
If you just focus on the nose or the tail, chances are you will be able to convince yourself it is a C2. A look at the sides instantly gives away the imitation, though. The newer generation has a much longer wheelbase and a rather flat windshield, something that seriously clashes with the aesthetic of the older car. The wheels are also not OEM, although the seller says a second, more authentic-looking set comes with the car.
Performance is where things get a fair bit livelier. A modern LS3 V8 under the hood drives a six-speed automatic transmission with 607 PS (599 hp / 446 kW). Even the once-greatest 327ci V8 variant of the C2 had considerably less power at its disposal.
On the off chance that you are torn between this retro-mod and the original C2, here is a friendly reminder that you could buy a new C8 for around 30% of the price.
