Canadian tuner molds a McLaren F1 lookalike out of a C5 Corvette

Canada-based car company DDR Motorsport has been offering its ‘Grullon GT8’ kit car for a while now, but the recent Gran Prix Edition uses the Chevrolet Corvette C5 as a starting point for the best results.

The custom ride comes based on a stainless-steel bonded tube frame and sports a glass-fiber body finished with a special gel coat. Glass windows all around get swapped for polycarbonate ones, and while the windshield may remain glass, it is also new. McLaren-style headlights and taillights, radiator and dashboard round off the list of principal components.

Those aiming for a more accurate imitation may order butterfly-wing doors, different bumpers, a slightly raised rear wing, a roof scoop, and other options. For the engine, customers can leave things stock or pick any Chevrolet V8 they like up to the C6 Z06 block rated at 505 PS (497 hp / 370 kW).

Pricing starts from $26,405 for a basic package with carbon fiber parts or just under $18,000 for a GFRP package. Of course, you still need to pay for the donor ‘Vette along with any options and interior features you desire, plus installation costs.
