U.S.-based tuning shop ProCharger claims its turbo upgrade for the C8 Corvette is the first on the market. Engine bay space limitations took more than a year to work around, but the result is a kit that every owner of the sports car can install on their own.
As it turns out, the mid-engined layout of the new ‘Vette poses a great many challenges when it comes to fitting upgrade components under the hood. However, the tuner was able to overcome the difficulties and leave the trunk area stock.
Included in the package are a large turbo, drive belts, pipes, drive shafts with bushings and an intake manifold with an intercooler. There is also a new carbon-fiber engine bay lid replacing the OEM cover that no longer fits.
Installing the kit necessitates tearing down some of the rear end of the sports car, but a little bit of experience and proper tools enable doing it yourself. Those who are less confident have a 76-page manual to guide them through each step.
Once boosted, the Corvette Stingray engine gains between 150-180 horsepower and no less than 120 Nm (90 lb-ft) of torque. ProCharger claims it will be releasing a different kit later that would raise the output to 1,000 horsepower and beyond.
