This 1962 Chevy Corvette belongs to a series of 246 Sebring Race sports cars and won a championship back in its glory days. It is now on sale for $199,000 USD.
The first-gen coupe comes equipped with such OEM options as wider wheels and upgraded suspension. The latter comprises better springs, modified sway bars, and track-ready shocks.
However, the main treat comes in the form of a boosted 5.4-liter V8 featuring a special injection system. Such cars were named “Fuelie” back in the era and maxed out at 355 horsepower (360 PS / 265 kW), the most of any Corvette C1.
Further options included heavy-duty brakes and a short steering rack. The team that prepared it for racing installed a roll bar behind the seats and put a small transparent visor where the windshield had been.
Hauser Chevrolet team member Ben Moore piloted the vehicle to six victories 60 years ago, securing the leadership in the SCCA Championship. The seller claims that the complete background of the car is available in an official/documented form, but reveals no further details.
A Corvette restoration expert carried out a full restoration of this example, which is now considered to be in excellent driving condition. Having said that, some parts like headlight elements are still waiting for suitable OEM replacements.
