The first-gen Corvette is beyond doubt one of the most iconic and recognizable sports cars of the American past, but it would take a complete overhaul for one to be viable on track these days. Case in point: this one.
Like every self-respecting restomod, this 60-year-old ‘Vette features an engine swap. It makes use of a blown LT4 V8 engine with 660 PS (650 hp / 479 kW) and 881 Nm (650 lb-ft) of torque at its disposal, which an eight-speed automatic transmission conveys to the rear wheels. But the important thing is, you cannot just put a strong engine into an old car and hope it handles better than before. It won’t.
That’s why this particular restomod benefits from new and height-adjustable suspension, a sway bar, power steering and a track-friendly Wilwood brake system. Better yet, there is a stiff Art Morrison GT Sport chassis hidden beneath that classical bodywork. Outfitted like this, the muscle car is a no-nonsense track weapon even by modern standards.
A peek inside the cabin reveals such modern amenities as a Vintage Air climate control system, leather seats, power windows and a back-up camera.
