Blind driver hits a speed record

Dan Parker, from the USA, set a Guinness Book record by taking his modified Chevrolet Corvette to nearly 340 km/h (211 mph). Making the achievement stand out is the fact that Parker is completely blind.

The run took place at a runway of the New Mexico Spaceport. The recorded speed was 339.64 km/h (211.04 mph), beating the old world record of 322.68 km/h (200.5 mph).

Parker lost his vision in a car accident on March 31, 2012, and chose to mark his ten years of blindness with a Guinness record. He did not use any kind of audial cues during the race. He said he hoped to attract public attention to the issues of blind people and demonstrate what they are truly capable of.
