Callaway is a tuning firm associated with the Chevrolet Corvette and particularly well known for pioneering a twin-turbo setup on the fourth generation of that sports car. One such vehicle has just changed hands at an auction.
It was a 1988 ‘Vette convertible with only around 58,000 km (36,000 miles) on the odo. The seller points out that it was the 11th out of 400 total units in the Twin Turbo series. The condition is exceptionally good for its age and mileage.
The car boasts a flashy red exterior that looks almost completely stock. The same applies to the cabin with its leather and suede trim combo. Note also the 1980s-style digital dash gauges that manage to look authentic in the C4.
A 5.7-liter V8 toils under the hood, hitting the rear wheels with 388 PS (382 hp / 285 kW) and 761 Nm (561 lb-ft) of torque. The transmission is new, there are two intercoolers on board, and the turbos are tucked in very low, near the oil sump. This enables the sports car to keep its center of gravity as low as possible.
The buyer of the rarity paid $30,500 for it.
