It is no secret that Chevrolet is working hard to bring us new versions of its C8 Corvette, but the specifics remain unannounced. Muscle Cars & Trucks claims it has received inside information about the next ZR1 coming with a 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 under the hood.
The source claims the engine will produce 862 PS (850 hp / 634 kW) – more than the Z06 gets out of the same block. It also says that eight-speed dual-clutch will be the only transmission available.
The ZR1 sports a rather aggressive exterior design compared to the standard C8 Corvette, especially evident at the nose and the tail. Its wheels are also unique and come wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires by default.
According to Chevrolet, the new ZR1 will go on sale in three years’ time or later, after the Corvette E-Ray Hybrid shown in the gallery and the video here. A fully electric Corvette lineup will be introduced, too, with a flagship version dubbed Zora exceeding 1,000 horsepower (750 kilowatts).
