How do you like this Chevy Corvette Wagon?

A unique 1968 Chevrolet C3 Corvette cabriolet has been converted into an estate car with a removable top and a 9.4-liter engine under the hood. It is up for grabs now with the bidding at $15,968 and a week until the auction closes.

Sports car tuning company Ecklers produced wagon conversion kits like this one in the early 1970s. The official story holds that the first such vehicle was custom-built for a rock band drummer who needed a spacious, stylish and fast car to carry his drum machine around.

In addition to the truck bed top, the kit included fender flares. The example on sale sports a few other modifications as well, such as an aftermarket hood cover and headlights moved below the front bumper.

A restoration undertaken ten years ago saw the sports car get a new and powerful engine. Made by GM Performance Parts, the mill has a displacement volume of 9.4 liters (572ci) and pumps out around 710 PS (700 hp / 522 kW) thanks to upgraded intake, carburetor and exhaust. The latter culminates in retro-style side pipes, and the transmission is five-speed manual.
