Everyone buying the new Chevrolet Corvette Z06 with the top-of-the-line LT6 V8 under the hood may now pay extra to piece the block together with their own hands, Corvette Blogger reports quoting Chevrolet’s Bowling Green factory manager Kai Spande.
Those willing to experience building their own engine will be given a dedicated space in the powertrain assembly facility and provided with all the parts needed. An experienced mechanic will supervise and assist in all stages of the process.
The completed engine will then be put on a dyno, tested and returned to the factory, where it will be slotted into the car ordered. While not official, Corvette Blogger believes the option will cost more than $5,000. The nearest production slots will allegedly open in the second half of 2023, so you might want to be patient if you are interested in the offer.
The Z06 C8 Corvette emerged earlier this fall with what its maker calls the world’s most powerful naturally aspirated V8 mounted between the axles. Working with 5.5 liters of displacement, the mill churns out up to 670 PS (661 hp / 493 kW) and 623 Nm (460 lb-ft) of torque, taking the sports car from zero to 60 miles per hour (96.6 km/h) in 2.6 seconds.
