The vehicle electrification trend is spreading farther than the car industry and making advances into shipbuilding as well. Electric carmaker Polestar has recently begun supplying its battery packs to Candela, the manufacturer of the C-8 electric hydrofoil.
Among other things, the boats will ship with the 69-kWh traction battery that the single-motor version of the Polestar 2 EV comes equipped with. The battery should enable the Candela C-8 to attain a top speed of 22 knots and cover 57 naval miles (106 km) on a single charge. The company proudly points out that it is two-three times the range of a typical electric motorboat.
The video provides a brief overview of the capabilities of the C-8 and its powertrain both in shallow water and open sea. The company says it has already registered more than 150 preorders and hopes to begin deliveries in the spring of 2024.
