Chevrolet halts C8 Corvette production, apparently Covid isn’t to blame

The iconic Chevrolet Corvette has been in almost non-stop production at the Bowling Green factory since 1984, when the fourth generation came out. However, the factory is idling right now as there are component supply issues.

A GM rep confirmed to the media that the production had halted, but did not provide any further comment aside from the remark that it had nothing to do with the recent semiconductor shortages. The company plans to resume operation on February 27 if it succeeds in procuring the parts in time.

The Bowling Green site employs over 1,300 workers assembling Stingray and Z06 Corvettes, among other cars. The last time the conveyor belt stopped was in August 2022 due to supply chain disruptions caused by Covid.
