Car&Driver claims citing its own sources that Chevrolet is getting an off-road-capable version of its Corvette sports car ready to rumble. It will allegedly be SUV-shaped and compete with the likes of the Lamborghini Urus and Porsche Cayenne when it touches down in late 2023.
While this report is not official, Car&Driver says the SUV will go on sale in 2024 with two engine options to choose from and most likely two wheelbase lengths, too. It will purportedly be based on the Alpha platform the latest Chevrolet Camaro is built on, as well as some Cadillacs. If true, that would mean the Corvette SUV would have nothing in common with the mid-engined sports car featured in our gallery below – aside from the name, that is.
In its most basic spec, the off-roader will reportedly a four-cylinder engine and roughly 300 PS (296 hp / 221 kW). The top spec may benefit from a 6.2-liter V8 boosted to 500 PS (393 hp / 368 kW) or so. Then again, it might inherit the drivetrain of the Cadillac Escalade V with its 680 PS (671 hp / 500 kW) or more.
Per the report, the car will take advantage of magnetorheological dampers and use a ten-speed automatic transmission to drive all four wheels.
