First Corvette E-Ray Hybrid sells for $1.1M

Barrett-Jackson auctioned off the Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray with the VIN number 001 this weekend, moving it for 10 times the list price. The winning bid in the amount of U.S. $1,100,000 will be donated to DonorsChoose.

The auction house said that, aside from being the first example in the batch, the E-Ray was the first part-electric, all-wheel-drive Corvette in history. These were all considerations that added to its final selling value.

Speaking of which: the car utilizes a 6.2-liter V8 tuned to 502 PS (495 hp / 369 kW) and an electric motor contributing another 163 PS (161 hp / 121 kW). The total comes up to 665 PS (656 hp / 489 kW), letting it sprint 0-60 mph (0-96.6 km/h) in 2.5 seconds.
