The National Council of Corvette Clubs has taken back its decision dating half a year back to ban all Corvette E-Ray hybrids from participating in racing events.
Per Carscoops, disgruntled Corvette fans convinced NCCC that it was a wrong move for the entire industry. In the end, NCCC President Deb Murphy admitted that the ruling was hastily made. She also called it “a misunderstanding”.
The Council updated its racing regulations in November last year, banning all hybrids and electric vehicles with lithium-ion battery packs from all races. Increased battery fire risks from crashes were cited as the main concern. Furthermore, all owners of electrified cars were forbidden from parking their vehicles any closer than 30 feet (9.1 meters) from transports, buildings and structures. The history’s first Corvette also fell under the restriction, causing a massive backlash over the Internet.
In her President’s Address e-mailed to the NCCC participants, Deb Murphy stated that the ban for EVs was still in force, but all hybrids were now exempt from the restrictions. She added that the newest ‘Vette would complement the upcoming club events nicely.
