Check out Motorola’s only all-electric Corvette

An exclusive 1987 Chevrolet Corvette is up for grabs on eBay with a cool asking price of U.S. $100,000. The one-off cabriolet was designed by Motorola 36 years ago with an all-electric powertrain under the hood.

The project budget was capped at $25,000, which translates into roughly $52,000 in modern United States dollars. It is a very modest sum to design an EV on, especially in the era when there are no other such cars around.

Powering this particular Corvette is a motor capable of 272 PS (268 hp / 200 kW). However, the actual output is lower than that due to battery limitations. The company behind the project was reportedly unable to accommodate a powerful enough battery in the car to unlock its full potential. The seller emphasizes that modern-era batteries are more than adequate for the task, though, and that maxing out the current may even let you squeeze around 800 horsepower (600 kilowatts) out of the motor on board.
