Leaked: Chevrolet Equinox gets a major facelift

Apparently, Chevrolet is busy getting an updated version of its Equinox mini crossover/SUV ready to rumble. Based on the latest spy photos, the car will get a major exterior makeover along with new engine options.

Despite the thick layer of test mule camouflage, you can still see that the Chevrolet Equinox facelift brings along Blazer-style vertically stacked headlights, a redesigned front bumper, and a new radiator grille.

The company is testing at least two copies of the car right now, one of which sports the same rectangular exhaust tip design as the pre-facelift Equinox, while the other one has four round pipes. The latter could be the SS performance trim, but this has not received any kind of official confirmation yet.

As for the engines, in all likelihood the car will ship with the old 1.6-liter LH7 diesel and 1.5-lliter LYX turbo still available. That said, Chevrolet might want to replace the old six-speed automatic transmission with a more modern nine-speed version. That, and it will also likely drop the outdated 2.0-liter, four-cylinder, turbocharged LTG engine in favor of the more efficient LSY unit that can deactivate half of its cylinders when not needed.

Aside from the Equinox, Chevrolet will also be pushing out an update of its GMC Terrain SUV. The model will ship with a nine-speed auto transmission and will be optionally available with a new 2.0-liter LSY diesel engine.
