Chevrolet Equinox EV bows with some specs, attractive $30k+ pricing

Chevrolet has unveiled its most affordable electric car so far, a compact crossover named Equinox EV. The production will not start until the next autumn, but the company says it will try to keep the base price at just $30,000.

The novelty uses the same platform named Ultium as the Silverado EV and Blazer EV. In its most affordable version, it has a single motor on the front axle producing 210 PS (207 hp / 154 kW) and 328 Nm (242 lb-ft) of torque. Going for a dual-motor variant gets you 290 PS (286 hp / 214 kW) and 469 Nm (346 lb-ft). This version concludes its 0-60 mph (0-97 km/h) sprint in six seconds flat.

Battery capacity remains unannounced, but Chevrolet promises two range options for single-motor variants – 402 and 483 km (250 and 300 miles, respectively). The dual-motor powertrain lies in between of these in terms of range, running dry after 451 km (280 miles) of driving.

By default, every Equinox EV will be equipped with a digital dashboard and an 11-inch infotainment display. Paid options will include a larger multimedia screen, a HUD, a two-zone climate control system and a Super Cruise autopilot system.
