General Motors is contemplating adding a compact battery truck to its lineup. The Michigan HQ is already working on a concept car, and if reaches production, chances are it will be priced under $30,000.
According to Automotive News, the model is envisioned with a two-door cab and a bed between 48–53.5 inches (128–137 centimeters) large. This would make it slightly smaller than the Ford Maverick and the Hyundai Santa Cruz. Those who have seen the sketches reportedly called it ‘futuristic’ and ‘sporty’.
It is unclear what badge the newcomer will be produced under. It might turn out to be a spin-off of the Chevrolet C10 currently sold in Brazil, Argentina and other South American markets. At the same time, one of the GM executives allegedly said the C10 chassis was too small for the EV. At any rate, affordability will be the main priority for the corporation.
It is also possible that the car will be technically related to the latest Chevrolet Montana (shown in the gallery here). The third generation of the FWD truck debuted in late 2022 as a model primarily targeting Latin America. Built on the unitized Tracker SUV platform, it also inherited its 1.2-liter three-cylinder turbo engine.
