Chevrolet has revealed a few more details concerning its new Silverado HD pickup truck. The vehicle will get a diesel engine with superb torque and Bedstep running boards for easy access to the truck bed.
The new vehicle looks vastly different from its junior sibling, the Silverado 1500. It actually looks more like a piece of heavy machinery, rather than a street-legal vehicle. Then again, Chevrolet proudly says the effect is intentional.
The car will ship in two versions: with a gasoline engine coupled with a six-speed manual transmission, and with a 6.6-liter diesel V8 partnered with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Reportedly, the latter engine will be able to produce up to 1,234 Nm (910 pound-feet) of torque.
The high position of the truck bed pretty much necessitates the feature called Bedstep, an access ladder which should make loading and unloading at least manageable.
The Silverado HD series will also offer greater cargo/towing capacity than its predecessors, but the company refuses to provide any specifics right now.
The most technically advanced Chevrolet car will celebrate its premiere in February 2019. Once out on the market, it is going to have to compete with the Ford Super Duty for customer attention.
