Chevrolet has managed to crank up the power output of the dual-motor Silverado EV. Like its technical twin that debuted a few days ago – the GMC Sierra EV – the truck now commands 764 PS (754 hp / 562 kW).
The electric Silverado and Sierra come based on the same platform called Ultium, are similar in size and have identical powertrains. The GMC truck is being positioned as a more upmarket choice with premium trim options and higher pricing across the board.
Torque-wise, the new Silverado EV has 1,057 Nm (780 lb-ft). Its GMC twin tops out slightly higher at 1,064 Nm (785 lb-ft). The Silverado also lacks the Crab Mode, a 4WS mode which enables GMC Sierra EV and Hummer EV drivers to go sideways in tight spots.
The base spec will be the first to reach the market priced around $40,000.
It is unclear whether Chevy improved the performance using hardware methods, software, or both. When the company announced the truck, it promised no more than 673 PS (664 hp / 495 kW) in the top spec.
