General Motors has confirmed that its all-electric Chevrolet Silverado EV covers 450 miles, or 724 kilometers, of EPA-rated range per charge, up 50 miles (80 km) from the original expectation. EPA has yet to confirm it on its own part, but once it does, the truck will hit the market as a leader in its class.
The number quoted above is valid for the Work Truck spec set to ship before the end of the current month. To put things into perspective, the relatively recent Rivian R1T Performance Dual-Motor AWD offers 644 km (400 miles) of range, and the Ford F-150 Lightning Pro maxes out at just 515 km (320 miles).
Another Silverado EV version called RST is scheduled to go on sale later. The company’s initial plans had involved equipping all Silverado versions with one and the same battery – the largest supported by the Ultium architecture – but it is no longer the case. Rory Harvey, President of GM North America, said another ‘workhorse’ truck was underway to the lineup with 563 km (350 miles) of range.
The most affordable Chevrolet Silverado EV will be priced from $39,900.
