Rally championships are a great place to see all manners of weird vehicles, from fire-spouting F1-style racecars to homegrown jalopies with grotesque aero kits slapped on… Then again, you can as well visit an event like the recently concluded Performance Racing Industry Show for surprise or two.
Enter the Chevrolet Sonic subcompact armed with a disproportionately huge Chevrolet LS3 V8 engine! We honestly don’t have a clue how you can fit a monster motor like this into a subcompact. Nonetheless, the tiny thing now has 430 bhp (321 kW) and 576 Nm (425 lbft) of torque at its disposal, enabling it to take on the best rally cars out there.
Aside from the engine, the Chevrolet Sonic flaunts a custom-tailored wide body kit, a roll cage and a number of other sports-specific features.
The vehicle will enter the American Rally Association series next year piloted by Patrick Moro with Ole Holter as the co-pilot.
