Shaped like an uncanny cross between a pickup and a cabriolet, the Chevrolet SSR has always been a bit of a niche vehicle, but famous SEMA tuner Slang500 felt it was his niche, so he modified it beyond all recognition.
The truck ended up with a homemade body kit, a special radiator grille and a high-flow exhaust system. Painting the body in an exclusive shade of bright red cost $10,000, according to the seller.
A powerful 5.3-liter V8 found its way under the hood along with a supercharger, a water-to-air cooler and a whole separate cooling pump. It may look overengineered (which is what it undoubtedly it, in any case), but this SSR pumps out a healthy 477 PS (470 hp / 351 kW) along with 679 Nm (501 lb-ft) of torque, making it viable on track. To that end, the suspension enjoys an assortment of upgrades from Bilstein and Simple Engineering.
And then there is the cabin, which burns the retina with its relentless blue/yellow trim combo, making the whole car resemble a child’s toy. If you concentrate and squint, you might just be able to discern a new dash panel there, a leather-wrapped new wheels and an Alpine multimedia system with some audio upgrades.
The pickup was sold for $25,100 the other day.
