1989 Chevy Suburban family hauler goes hardcore on six wheels

The 1989 Chevrolet Suburban is a bulky and heavy vehicle, and its 6.2-liter diesel V8 doesn’t do it justice with only 130 hp (97 kW) and 325 Nm (240 lb-ft) of torque. This swapped specimen by Worldwide Vintage Autos is a remarkable exception, though.

The tuner fits the car with a 6.6-liter LB7 Duramax V8 featuring enlarged fuel injectors, FASS fuel system, a Banks Power waste gate and a slew of other aftermarket parts. Even in its stock form, the diesel-guzzler outputs 300 hp (224 kW) along with 760 Nm (560 lb-ft) of torque to the wheels; the modded version must be much stronger still, but we don’t have the specs, unfortunately.

The car now rides on a Dana 60 front axle and dual Dana 70 rear axle. It benefits from a generous suspension lift, dual Mayhem rear wheels wrapped in Nitto tires, and a custom-made exhaust system. Novelty inside boils down to a wood-trimmed steering wheel and perhaps new seat upholstery, although the latter is not certain.

So, would you like to take your family on a wilderness camping trip with this Suburban?
