Since its debut in China and South America a few years ago, the compact-sized Chevy Tracker has only been available with a three-cylinder engine. This changes now with the introduction of a new four-cylinder version called the RS.
The new engine was developed by SAIC Group and gets 184 PS (181 hp / 135 kW) along with 250 Nm (183 lb-ft) of torque out of its 1.5 liters of displacement. For comparison, the old three-pot was available in 125 PS (123 hp / 92 kW) and 165 PS (163 hp / 121 kW) variants in China. Customers in Brazil were even more handicapped with a choice between 116 PS (114 hp / 85 kW) and 133 PS (131 hp / 98 kW).
The new engine is only available with a CVT and front-wheel drive. It takes the Tracker from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 7.8 seconds, which is 1.1s faster than the best old spec could do with a CVT.
On the outside, the updated crossover SUV sports a new radiator grille, 17-inch wheels, and black trim details/badges all around. The interior is also said to be sportier than before, but Chevrolet hasn’t posted any photos yet.
Sales in China will start next month.
