Chinese car brand Weiao has introduced Boma, an all-electric compact car that CarNewsChina jokingly refers to as a ‘Toyota Alphard clone’ due to the similar-looking front end. The EV has meager 41 PS (40 hp / 30 kW) and 84 Nm (62 lb-ft) of torque at its disposal and costs 39,900 Yuan (around 5,550 USD).
The tiny urban car is 3,517 mm long, 1,495 mm wide and 1,660 mm tall with 2,495 mm separating the axles. Despite such modest dimensions, it does resemble the Alphard with its massive vertical grille bars and similar-looking side bumper details.
The similarities vanish when looking inside the cabin. There are two displays sized 7 and 9 inches across and no multimedia system in the base trim level. The standard features include an AC, 15-inch wheels, rear parking sensors, ABS and tire pressure control. Airbags are absent.
A single front-mounted electric motor is barely enough to accelerate the Weiao Boma to 100 km/h (62 mph). In its most basic version, it makes do with an 11.9-kWh traction battery offering 130 km (80 miles) of CLTC-rated range. Opting for a larger 18.5-kWh pack will get you 200 km (124 miles). The company plans to launch a third variant in late 2023 that will cover 300 km (186 miles) on a charge.
