In the summer of 2017, Chrysler has been busy testing a prototype of its 300 model armed with a Hellcat engine. The company ended up putting the project on hold, but many car enthusiasts felt robbed of something important. Indeed, a Chrysler 300 with its heart transplanted from a Dodge Challenger/Charger sounded really appealing! Well, as it turns out, someone actually went ahead and did the conversion.
In its topmost trim version, the Chrysler 300 ships with 470 hp (351 kW) and 637 Nm (470 lbft) of torque at its disposal. The stock Hellcat engine, on the other hand, produces up to 707 hp (527 kW) and 881 Nm (650 lbft) of torque. The tuner added two Hellion turbochargers to it, resulting in 1,000+ hp (750 kW) being passed over to the wheels.
The luxury sedan now completes a quarter-mile drag strip in around 10.1 seconds. This may seem slow, but it’s really an excellent result for a vehicle that weighs in excess of two metric tons (4,500 lb).
Incidentally, for the first time since its 2011 debut, Chrysler 300 sales dropped below 50,000 units last year. So, perhaps, the time has come to try again with that Hellcat prototype, eh, Chrysler?..
