Car manufacturer Citroen chose to celebrate its 100th anniversary by building the unique 19_19 Concept, a self-driving all-electric vehicle offering unsurpassed passenger comfort. The design team admits to having drawn their inspiration from airspace industry – hence the helicopter-like panoramic windshield, among other things.
Powering the Citroen 19_19 Concept are two electric motors joining efforts for 462 hp (345 kW) and 800 Nm (590 lb×ft) of torque. Sourcing their power from a 100 kWh battery, they accelerate the car 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in five seconds flat. The maximum speed is electronically capped at 200 km/h (124 mph), and the company says you can cover up to 800 km (500 mi) on a single charge.
The cabin of the vehicle is suspended on adaptive suspension and what its creators call Progressive Hydraulic Pillows. The passenger area itself is more reminiscent of a living room than anything else, and houses a driver’s seat, a power-assisted lounge chair (!) for the front passenger, a rear sofa the likes of which you can find on Riva speedboats, a few projection-based displays, and a voice control system.
Aside from the above, the Citroen 19_19 Concept features a light-based notification system, proximity lasers for finding its way out of tight spots, and an AI-powered virtual assistant.
