Once-ubiquitous Citroen 2 CV makes a return as an EV

Back in the 1930s, Citroen designed an extremely cheap and unassuming car for the masses, naming it the 2 CV. It was slammed by critics for its goofy appearance and weak 9-hp (6.6kW) engine, but ultimately became a classic thanks to its liberal price. Fast-forward to year 2026, and it’s coming back with a battery pack on board.

The short teaser vid and image don’t tell us much, but it’s already clear that the exterior of the EV will be strongly inspired by its gas-powered predecessor. The silhouette seems to be very similar, but LED lights lend it a bit of modern charm.

All powertrain details will have to wait until the premiere. All we know is that it’s going to be fully electric. The production will begin in 2028, and Citroen hopes to be able to offer it starting from a low €15,000. That’s a solid starting price if Europe is serious about competing with China in the EV segment of the market.

More details will be revealed at the Paris Motor Show in October this year.
