Watch sluggish low-end EVs crawl their way along a quarter-mile drag strip

Such automakers as Tesla and Rimac have proven that electric cars can be blazing fast. However, speed comes at a cost, so going cheap often results in a very sluggish ride. This video by What Car stars not one, but four such rides trying hard to outpace each other.

The list includes a Citroën Ami, an Estrima Biro, a Scooterpac Cabin and a Sinclair C5. These are all cheap urban cars that are easy to park thanks to their tiny dimensions, but that’s about it.

Out of the four, the Ami is perhaps the best known. It is a two-seater quadricycle with a 5.5-kWh traction battery sufficient for 70 km (43.5 miles) of range. It maxes out at 45 km/h (28 miles per hour).

The Estrima Biro is less-power-hungry, but has the same manufacturer-rated top speed as the Ami. The remaining duo is considerably slower: the Sinclair C5 barely gets to 24 km/h (15 mph), and the Scooterpac Cabin maxes out at 13 km/h (8 mph).

Which one do you think will be the first to finish its arduous journey through the 402-meter drag strip?
