Citroen has unveiled two new powertrains for its C3 hatchback originally unveiled in all-electric form (see video). They will both go on sale this summer priced from €14,990.
The new base spec makes do with a simple 1.2-liter turbo three-cylinder engine mated to a manual transmission, making 100 PS (99 hp / 74 kW). Higher trim levels unlock the hybrid option – it takes the same engine and pairs it with a 28-PS (28-hp / 21-kW) electric motor built into a six-speed dual-clutch transmission.
According to the manufacturer, the hybrid should be at least 10% more economical because owners can make up to 50% of their urban trips on electricity alone. The battery is small and not chargeable from external sources.
On the exterior side of things, the petrol C3 variants look identical to the EV revealed before. They, too, lean into the soft-road aesthetic with 193 mm (7.54 inches) of ground clearance as opposed to 135 mm (5.27 inches) in the previous generation. Citroen claims that, despite still being 4,010 mm (156.6 inches) long, the hatchback now offers more legroom alongside a slightly larger trunk (310 liters, or just under 11 cubic feet).
The base trim already includes Advanced Comfort suspension with hydraulic control arms, LED lighting all around and six airbags. What it doesn’t include is an infotainment system – you are supposed to use your phone instead. An AC and a wide range of driving assists are also on the list. Going for a higher trim level gets you particularly comfortable seats, a 10.25-inch display, a reversing camera and a wireless charger.
