Citroen C4 may spawn an SUV version

Carscoops believes that Citroen is seriously considering expanding its C4 range with a new crossover SUV based on the C5 Aircross chassis.

The new generation saw the C4 model morph into a crosshatch (see the photos and the video), but an opening was left in the lineup for a full-fledged SUV. Should such a car get approval, it may debut in late 2022.

The publication argues that there is a rather large gap between the C3 Aircross and the C5 Aircross: the former is only 4,150 mm (162 inches) long, while the latter measures 4,510 mm (176.2 inches) head to tail. The C4 Cactus used to fill the gap somewhat, but it was discontinued not long ago.

As such, it would make sense for the Citroen C4 Aircross to reach the market with a more or less upright roofline in the back, large wheel arches and rugged styling cues. The front will probably resemble that of the recently debuted C5 Aircross, and there will be a plastic body kit with the trademark Airbump moldings.

As far as the engines, customers will likely still choose from the usual gasoline and diesel engines ranging from 1.2 to 1.5 liters and 100-155 PS (99-153 hp; 74-114 kW). An electric version with 136 PS (134 hp / 100 kW) at the wheels is also not wholly out of the question. AWD, on the other hand, will probably not make the cut.
