Citroen has confirmed its intention to withdraw from the large car market in order to focus on compact and subcompact vehicles.
Thierry Coscas, Citroen Executive VP for sales and marketing, said the large C5 X liftback the company had been producing was “no longer viable” and would drop out of production with no replacement coming anytime soon.
He emphasized that the company had to prioritize the vehicle classes with the highest profit potential. For Citroen, this means the affordable lower end of the market. It also implies that in the near future, the company’s model lineup can be expected to shrink to just five or six models.
