After nearly three decades of selling minivans in Europe, Citroën is now officially pulling out of the declining MPV segment of the market. The last Grand C4 SpaceTourer will roll off the assembly line in early July 2022.
When drawing a bottom line under the MPV branch, there is no avoiding remembering some of the more successful Citroёn entries, like the C8. The C8 debuted in 2002 and went on for 12 years before retiring in 2014 with 150,000 units sold in total.
Still, it was the Xsara Picasso that exploded the minivan market in 1999, selling no less than 180,000 in its opening year alone and proceeding to move around 1,760,000 units.
The Grand C4 SpaceTourer was born in 2006 under the name ‘C4 Picasso’. Seven years later, the model went into its second generation. Later still, it became known as the C4 SpaceTourer we know today. Its five-seat variant vanished in the river of time in 2020, and while the seven-seater has held the ground to this day, it will now officially end before midsummer.
