Continental finds a way to prevent drivers from getting distracted by multimedia screens

Representatives of Continental have revealed an innovative ‘Privacy’ mode for the front passenger’s infotainment display that can be used to prevent the driver from taking their eyes off the road.

The novelty is essentially just a dynamic display much like those installed on most modern laptops. However, a special “confidentiality button” can be used to limit the visibility of the on-screen content for everyone not sitting straight in front of it. Those viewing the screen from an angle see less than 1% of its brightness, which looks like a dark screen.

The feature can come in handy in darker conditions when distracting lights can lead to an accident. The design team behind the feature claims it meets the strictest design requirements and does not impair image quality in any way.

Continental expects to introduce the tech to the mass market in a few years, but refrains from commenting what car marques and models may get it.
