Cupra, a subordinate sports brand of SEAT, has taken the wraps off its new crossover SUV, called the Tavascan. The name refers to a village and a popular ski resort in Spain.
This is Cupra’s second all-electric car to date after el-Born. It sports a rather aggressive exterior, with the ‘gaping maw’ at the front perhaps being the boldest design decision. There is a glowing logo inside the ‘maw’, the copper-tinted wheels measure a whopping 22 inches across, and carbon fiber is routinely used for body décor.
The powertrain consists of two electric motors jointly rated at 306 hp (228 kW). The driving range amounts to 450 km (280 miles). There are other SUVs out there based on the same tech platform – specifically, the Audi Q4 e-tron, the Skoda Vision iV and the Volkswagen ID. Crozz – but all three come equipped with batteries that are 82 or 83 kWh large, while the Cupra Tavascan lags behind with just 77 kWh on board.
The manufacturer claims the crossover does the standard 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint in under 6.5 seconds. While not exactly too bad, this is still slower than the 5.9 seconds of the Skoda Vision Concept, the 6.0 s of the VW ID. Crozz Concept, and even the 6.3 s of the Q4 e-tron.
Inside, the dashboard measures 12.3 inches across, and the central infotainment display is even larger at 13 inches. The finish involves generous amounts of Alcantara, leather, and carbon fiber.
