Cupra has unveiled what it calls the UrbanRebel Concept, an electric hot hatch with video game looks and the ability to zap 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in just 3.2 seconds. The production car should follow in four years’ time.
The development team believes it came up with the ultimate, no-holds-barred city car. Video games have officially been a source of inspiration for its design – hence the massive front bumper with a massive(ly fake) air intake, the complex paintjob, the wide fenders and the giant rear wing with taillights attached.
The car is 4,080 mm (159 inches) long, 1,795 mm (70 inches) wide and 1,444 mm (56.4 inches) tall. It is said to produce 340 PS (335 hp / 250 kW), but can temporarily boost the output to 435 PS (430 hp / 320 kW). How many motors are inside is not known yet.
Cupra has officially confirmed plans to launch the UrbanRebel Concept into mass production by mid-2020s. In earlier news, Volkswagen announced a whole new lineup of compact EVs to be sold under all VW Group sub-brands. All these compacts will be based on a simplified version of the current-gen MEB platform, and will not exceed 204 PS (201 hp / 150 kW).
