Cupra Ateca gets an update following its Seat counterpart

As soon as Seat unveiled its facelifted Ateca SUV, we knew it was only a matter of time until its performance-oriented Cupra version caught up – and here it is.

The changes are essentially the same: the new Cupra Ateca sports LED headlights similar to those of the Tarraco and Leon, as well as a reshaped front bumper and radiator grille reminiscent of the Formentor. At its rear end, the Cupra Ateca boasts a different-looking diffuser and exhaust tips. Copper-tinted Brembo brakes are optional.

Inside, the digital dashboard measures 10.25 inches across, and the infotainment system is marginally smaller at 9.2 inches. The system supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and USB-C connectivity options and lets you control it remotely via smartphone; voice recognition is said to have been improved in the new version.

The car still comes powered by its usual 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine with 300 hp (224 kW) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) at the output end. A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission sends the torque to all four wheels, enabling the SUV to hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.9 seconds and max out at 247 km/h (153.5 mph).

The list goes on to mention revised steering and various safety-oriented enhancements, including a “smart” cruise control logic capable of analyzing and predicting various road situations. The drive modes are still six in number.

The EU-spec Cupra Ateca should hit the showrooms in the third quarter of the year after the production lines launch in the village of Kvasiny, Czech Republic.
